Pepys Building, Magdalene College Cambridge

Pepys Restoration Project Timeline

Pepys Restoration Project Timeline and Scope of Works.

Built between 1670 and 1703 the Grade I Listed Pepys Building falls within the Cambridge Historic Core Conservation Area.

The College Library was housed on the ground floor of the Pepys Building for more than 50 years and generations of Magdalene Members will recall working in somewhat more cramped conditions than the current students; visiting Mickey Dias in his ground floor rooms for supervisions and, a lucky few, will remember living in rooms in the Pepys Building during that time.

The completion of the award-winning New Library in spring 2021 provided the opportunity to think creatively about the long overdue complete restoration of this iconic building.

The Pepys Restoration Project offers the opportunity to carefully restore the entire building, to create an improved Pepys Library visitor experience in the now vacant right cloister, create new teaching, lecture and research facilities and house the Academic Office in the left-hand cloister.
