Magdalene admits roughly 105 undergraduates each year for all courses offered by the University of Cambridge, and about 80 postgraduate students. Our small annual intake helps to foster a family atmosphere and a close-knit community.
Accommodation and Food
Magdalene provides accommodation for all undergraduates for the duration of their course, as well as for many postgraduate students. Students are housed on the main College site or in College-owned houses which are only two or three minutes walk away.
There is an impressive range of support available for students in College. An experienced welfare support team, including the tutors, chaplain, nurse, and counsellor can offer help and advice for everything from health issues or emotional worries to writing skills and financial hardship.
The College Library is Magdalene's 'working' library, with over 28,000 books as well as a wealth of digital and other resources. It is open 24 hours a day during Full Term and throughout the Easter vacation.
The chapel has been an important part of the College's life since it was built in the 1470s. The chapel continues to be a place of regular Christian worship, but also offers a quiet space for retreat and reflection for the whole College community.
Sports, Music, Drama, and the Arts
Whether you want to continue an established interest or try something completely new, there are a wide range of active clubs and societies at Magdalene. Sports, music, drama, and the arts are just some of the extra-curricular activities that play an important part in College life.
Junior Combination Room (JCR)
The JCR represents the interests of undergraduate students at Magdalene, acting as the link between students, Fellows and College Departments, and between Magdalene students and the main Cambridge University Student Union. The JCR Committee is elected annually by the undergraduate community.
Middle Combination Room (MCR)
Most postgraduate Members of the College are members of the Middle Combination Room (MCR). The MCR organises social events and represents the interests of the Magdalene postgraduate community, acting as the link between students, Fellows and College Departments.
