Pepys Restoration Project Public Entrance

Support the Pepys Restoration Project (£)

Supporting the Pepys Restoration Project.

Magdalene is embarking on an important £5 million restoration project and needs to raise funds for the renovation of the Grade I listed Pepys Building, a historic gem at the heart of our College.

We are renovating the Pepys Building to ensure it, and the treasures within, are accessible to all for generations to come. The renovated building will boast a stunning new entrance hall, accessible lift and exhibition space. It will house a new teaching/seminar room for visitors and school children studying the great fire of London in 1666 and eager to learn about Samuel Pepys, the man, his fascinating collection and his dairies.

The College aims, just as we did with the award-winning New Library, for a sympathetic and sustainable restoration which will stand the test of time.

Funding the Restoration

While the College is committed to funding a significant portion of this important project, we need your help to cover half of the £5 million cost. By supporting the Pepys Restoration Project, you play a crucial part in preserving our cultural heritage and ensuring the Pepys Building returns to its former glory with remarkable craftsmanship as befits this historic gem in the heart of the College.

Areas of Support

Book of Benefactors - £1000.00

A £1000.00 donation, as a one-off gift or as a monthly gift of £17.24 + Gift Aid, will be acknowledged in the handwritten commemorative Book of Benefactors. The Book of Benefactors will be displayed in the Pepys Building, ensuring your name, or that of a loved one, is recorded for posterity.

Preserve a Press - £25000.00

The treasures of the Pepys Library are preserved in the original oak bookcases designed by Pepys in 1666. A gift of £25000.00 will allow specialist furniture restorers to preserve the presses for future generations to enjoy. Find out more about the Pepys Presses
