Magdalene Street

Local Amenities

The area around Magdalene contains a wealth of cafes, restaurants, and pubs (all serving food), as well as a wine bar, a gym, a bike shop, and various other retail outlets. Many of them are situated in the ground floor units of Magdalene's own Quayside development, or in other College-owned buildings along Magdalene Street and Bridge Street.

The University Grocers and Newsagents occupies the ground floor of a College property immediately opposite our main entrance and backs onto the Village. It stocks a good range of food, drink, magazines, and other day-to-day essentials.

Immediately to the east of the College site is Jesus Green, a beautiful open parkland space. It also contains a number of public tennis courts and the Jesus Green Lido, which claims to be one of Europe's largest outdoor swimming pools (NB. outdoor in Cambridge = summer months only!).

Across the road from the College you will find Kettle's Yard, one of the University of Cambridge's flagship museums (and a wonderful place to sit and read), as well as the Museum of Cambridge, which chronicles the history of the town itself.

The College's own facilities (find out more here) are extensive, and include a bar, common rooms, a pool room, squash and fives courts, a computer suite, lecture and seminar rooms, two well-equipped gyms, and music practice rooms. The College also has its own punts which are available for members of College to sign out and use between March and October.

The College has excellent links to the motorway (M11) and is situated near the city ring road, which makes it easy to find. There are a number of bus stops adjacent to the College site, including one serving the regular X5 coach service to Oxford.
