Magdalene students selected for Varsity rugby

Two Magdalene students have been selected by Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club (CURUFC) to play in the 36th women's Varsity rugby match against Oxford. This year Rugby Varsity Matches will be taking place on Saturday 2 March 2024 at the StoneX Stadium, home of the Saracens, in North London.

Rosemary Scowen (2018)
PhD in Semiconductor Physics

This will be Rose's fourth Blue playing rugby for Cambridge, having appeared in the 2019, 2022 and 2023 Varsities. A back row who specialises at the breakdown, Rose has been a stalwart of the Blues team for the past five seasons. This year she broke the Blues cap record and became the woman with the most appearances for CURUFC (at 64 caps to date).

Jenny Hardwick (2020)
BA Engineering

A hockey convert with appearances for the Rovers (Hockey fourth team), Jenny has joined the team this year and made such an impact that she has earned a position on the Blues bench. Jenny has settled well into the role as flanker, and is known for her dominating tackles and quick feet. She has certainly proven a fantastic asset to the Blues squad this season.

Full coverage of both the Men’s and Women’s matches will be on The Varsity Matches Facebook, Youtube and website.

We're extremely proud of Rosemary and Jenny and will be cheering for them and the light blue squads this weekend!
