College Choir gives world premiere of new anthem by Roderick Williams

On Sunday 26 February 2023, Magdalene College Choir gave the first performance of a new anthem by renowned baritone and composer, Roderick Williams OBE.

The anthem, ‘Vision of the Cross’, sets words by the late Kit Hesketh-Harvey, and accompanies a visit to the College Chapel of the Cross of the Cosmos, a devotional artifact created by David Maude-Roxby-Montalto di Fragnito. The new anthem, which also featured the composer as baritone soloist, was performed at Choral Evensong alongside canticles by Herbert Howells, and responses by the Precentor, James Potter, who directed the choir. Former Master of Magdalene, Rowan, Lord Williams of Oystermouth, preached at the service.
