The Carne MML Fund

Supporting language students undertaking the Year Abroad.

Mr Philip Carne (1958) has generously established the Carne MML Fund to provide assistance to language students embarking on their Year Abroad as part of their undergraduate studies in Modern and Medieval Languages (MML), History and Modern Languages (H&ML), and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (AMES).

The primary goal of the fund extends beyond addressing financial challenges faced by students during their Year Abroad, it aims to ensure that no potential applicant is discouraged from choosing a subject with a compulsory Year Abroad because of the additional costs of studying abroad for their third year before completing their degree with a 4th year back at Magdalene. The fund's mission is to actively encourage applications from language enthusiasts for subjects that include a Year Abroad, regardless of their ability to cover the additional costs.

The Carne MML Fund will not only specifically support Magdalene College's language students who are in receipt of a Magdalene Bursary but also support students who receive partial bursary support. The Fund will also help with covering the costs of the language course first-year students take during the vacations.

We are delighted that the donor will match any gift received for this new Fund in support of the study of languages pound for pound up to £50,000, so every gift received will be worth twice as much!
