See Magdalene's Senex Globes at the Victoria and Albert Museum
Between Two Worlds: Vanley Burke and Francis Williams, is a thought-provoking exhibition, organized to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the docking of the Empire Windrush in June 2023. It brings together portraits of two distinguished scholars from different eras, created 280 years apart.
Magdalene's Senex Globes will be displayed alongside a portrait of Francis Williams (c.1690-1762), an eighteenth-century Jamaican scholar, shedding light on his remarkable life and the objects that were significant to him as markers of his learning. The display also features the photography and archive of Vanley Burke (b.1951), offering a contemporary perspective on identity and representation.
Don't miss the chance to witness the captivating portrait of Francis Williams, accompanied by Magdalene's extraordinary Senex Globes. It's an unparalleled opportunity to delve into the intertwined narratives, exploring history, identity, and the objects that shape our understanding of the past.
If you are in London over the summer and want to see a small piece of Magdalene outside of Cambridge, visit Between Two Worlds at the V&A Museum from 12 June to 31 December 2023.
