Peter Peckard Prize Winner 2021

The College is pleased to announce the award of the Peter Peckard Prize 2021.

We are delighted to announce that the winner of the Peter Peckard Memorial Prize 2021 is Miss Alice Mee, Modern and Medieval Languages, undergraduate at Queens' College for her essay titled 'The Cycle of Forced Prison Labour in Ukraine’s Occupied Territories: an Open Secret'.

Winner, Alice Mee, receiving her prize from the Master, Sir Christopher GreenwoodThe Peter Peckard Memorial Prize was established in honour of one of Magdalene's most distinguished eighteenth-century Masters, Dr Peter Peckard. Funded by the generosity of two Magdalene Members, the prize is awarded for an essay or similar composition on some egregious form of human exploitation in the world today and the actions needed to eliminate it.

The judging selection committee were extremely impressed with the level of entries.

Professor Sir Richard Jolly (1953), Honorary Fellow and one of the prize donors said:

I must congratulate Alice on this most-hard-hitting contribution and award-winning essay for this year’s Peter Peckard Essay prize and the care with which she has assembled evidence and the clear exposition of the situation in Ukraine, this needs to be more publicly known.

The College would like to extend its warmest congratulations to Alice along with thanks to all who entered this year’s competition.
