Mr Duncan Robinson CBE (1943-2022)

Mr Duncan Robinson CBEIt is with great sadness that the College announces that Mr Duncan Robinson CBE, Honorary Fellow and former Master, died peacefully in the United States on 2 December 2022. A distinguished art historian, as Master of Magdalene from 2002-2012 he presided over a dramatic improvement in the College’s academic performance, as well as being a driving force behind the decision to build the New Library and launch the highly successful Future Foundations Campaign.

Sir Christopher Greenwood, the current Master, writes:

Duncan Robinson was an outstanding Master in every way. A great scholar, he worked tirelessly and with great success to strengthen the academic standing of the College without losing its happy and caring atmosphere. The prize-winning new Library is a tribute to his vision for Magdalene but is only the physical manifestation of an influence which ran deep in all aspects of College life. Duncan once said that his time as Master was the most fruitful and enjoyable part of his career. We are all grateful for everything he did for the College and I am honoured to be one of his successors.

The whole College sends its condolences to his wife, Lisa, and their family.
