Boston Drinks and Dinner 2023

-
Boston, MA

The Master, Sir Christopher Greenwood, and Development Director, Corinne Lloyd, look forward to returning to the United States this autumn, and very much look forward to reconnecting with alumni and friends when they visit Boston on Wednesday 8 November. We are delighted that we will be offering Members the opportunity to attend two events that evening thanks to the generous efforts of two of our Members, and alumni may choose to attend either one or both.

Drinks Reception and Talk

From 5.30pm Peter Abbot (1998), the British Consul General to New England, will host alumni for a drinks reception and talk at the Official Residence located in Beacon Hill, a short walk from the Somerset Club.

The talk will take the format of a fireside chat, where Peter will be joined by Dr Melanie Ivarsson, Moderna’s Director of Development. Melanie will discuss her memories of the early days of the pandemic as well as her experience of Operation Warp Speed (the Trump Administration’s accelerated efforts to develop a Covid vaccine); her experience of the way that Moderna scaled so rapidly over the subsequent three years (as well as their international expansion into the UK); and her reflections on the UK life sciences scene and the Cambridge University life sciences ecosystem in particular.

Dinner

There will then be a Magdalene Dinner at 7.30pm, hosted by Alastair Adam (1990) and Leslie Adam, at the Somerset Club (42 Beacon Street). We hope that alumni will join us for a delicious three-course meal at this wonderful venue.

Guests

Magdalene Members are welcome to be accompanied by a guest at both the drinks/talk and dinner.

Cost

Due to the generosity of both Peter Abbot (1998) and Alastair Adam (1990) we are pleased to inform Members that both of these events are offered free of charge to attend.
