Annual Fund Officer

Full time 36.25 hours per week
Salary: £29,000 - £32,000 p.a.

We are seeking to appoint a confident Annual Fund Officer with strong interpersonal skills able to build effective relationships with potential donors. We would expect a track record in the Alumni and Development in the Higher Education sector. The Annual Fund Officer will be a vital part of the Regular Giving team charged with growing our regular income yet further. This role offers a real opportunity to work with and further develop ‘Vanilla Soft’ which allows much greater flexibility in terms of organising annual regular giving activities.

Candidates should have evidence of performance gained within a results-orientated environment such as fundraising, sales or marketing, knowledge of the UK Higher Education Sector and a strong belief in the importance of educational opportunities, with an understanding of current issues along with the ability to build rapport with individuals and build relationships with Members and Friends of the College. Candidates should be familiar with relational databases, be well organised with strong interpersonal skills, in particular the ability to be patient, tactful, diplomatic and professional.

The Alumni & Development Office consists of a team of eight and is a vibrant, forward-thinking office responsible for all aspects of fundraising and alumni relations including the organisation of alumni events both at home and abroad. The office is often the first point of contact for our Members, Friends and Honorary Fellows and runs a comprehensive communications programme involving the website, social media platforms, as well as printed publications. We are in the final stages of an ambitious and successful fundraising endeavour, “Future Foundations – The Campaign for Magdalene” and looking forward to the next stage with its fresh challenges. The position is full-time, 36.25 hours a week, and attracts a salary of £29-32,000 p.a. (dependent on experience) and excellent benefits including:

Annual Fund Officer Candidate Information Pack


Undergraduate Admissions Officer

1 year fixed term maternity cover
Full time 36.25 hours per week
Salary: £32,412 p.a.

The College seeks to appoint a full-time Undergraduate Admissions Officer to provide advice and information on admissions matters relating to undergraduate admissions and to process and administer all undergraduate applications to the College. The Undergraduate Admissions Officer is also responsible for organising assessments and interviews; ensuring legal requirements are met and liaising with applicants about bursaries.

The Undergraduate Admissions Officer works within the Academic Office alongside the Academic Registrar, the Schools Liaison, Undergraduate Tutorial, and Postgraduate Officers, and the Academic Office Administrator. The post holder works closely with the Undergraduate Admissions Tutor and liaises with Directors of Studies and other Fellows as appropriate.

Candidates should have knowledge of the Cambridge undergraduate admissions process or the UCAS admissions process. They should have worked in a complex administration role and have excellent communication skills. The successful applicant will need to have exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines, have a keen eye for detail and be well versed in IT packages such as Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

Undergraduate Admissions Officer Candidate Information Pack


Maintenance Office Manager

Full time: 40 hours per week
Salary: £28,800 per annum

The College seeks to appoint a Maintenance Office Manager. Reporting to the Head of Building Services, the Maintenance Office Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day administration of the College’s busy Maintenance Department. This involves a range of tasks from basic administration such as data entry to revising processes, ensuring they are fit for purposes.

The Maintenance Department comprises a small in-house team providing day to day maintenance services to buildings within the College’s main site and adjacent College-owned properties.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent administration, organisational and time management skills. To be successful in the role, the ability to communicate effectively and work in cooperation with colleagues to achieve efficient service levels is essential. The post would suit someone who is willing to deal with detailed tasks and is also able to see the bigger picture and embrace refining and redesigning processes and procedures.

Responsibilities will include ensuring the smooth running of the Maintenance Department, developing work systems and procedures, collating information and writing summary reports. The post holder is responsible for the administration and logging of daily maintenance requests and ensuring the maintenance operatives have all the relevant information required.

Applicants should have experience of working in an office environment, ideally with experience of managing a busy office where unexpected tasks requiring attention can arise.

Maintenance Office Manager Candidate Information Pack


Bar Supervisor

Full or Part Time
Salary: £14,378 - £23,963 p.a.

We are searching for a committed, proactive bar supervisor. The role will be to promote the college bar and engage with our student population. Hire and train staff, and ensure that patrons are receiving excellent drinks service. You will also manage inventory and resources, plan promotional events together with student representatives, ensuring that quality and safety controls are followed. The post holder will also support our front of house Buttery team.

In order to succeed as bar supervisor, you should be observant and have the ability to think critically and efficiently. You should be a skilled communicator with problem-solving, observation, and interpersonal skills. Be able to manage the business aspects of the bar, negotiate supplier contracts, take inventory and reorder supplies and manage budgets.

The position could be full-time, 40 hours a week, which attracts a salary of £23,963 p.a. or part-time which is 24 hours a week with a salary of £14,378. The College offers excellent benefits including contributory pension scheme, meals when on duty, 33 days holiday (including bank holidays) pro-rata if part-time, and the use of sports facilities.

Magdalene College is looking for an experienced Chef to work as a Senior Chef de Partie in our team of catering staff. The Catering Team is responsible for the production of food for students, Fellows, staff and guests and the Chef de Parties are responsible for initiating and overseeing the production of all meals during the shift, ensuring a high standard of customer service.

We would like to hear from candidates with previous experience in a Chef De Partie role, preferably within a formal or fine dining environment who have excellent cooking skills, the ability to multitask and the ability to work under pressure. The post holder will need to be able to work as part of a team in a senior role.

The position is full-time, 40 hours a week, and attracts a salary of up to £26,000 p.a. and excellent benefits including contributory pension scheme, lunch on duty, 33 days holiday (including bank holidays), cycle to work scheme, and the use of sports facilities and the gym and College punts during the summer.

Chef de Partie

The Catering Team is responsible for the production of food for students, Fellows, staff and guests and the Chef de Parties are responsible for initiating and overseeing the production of all meals during the shift, ensuring a high standard of customer service.

We would like to hear from candidates with previous experience in a Demi or Chef De Partie role, preferably within a formal or fine dining environment who have excellent cooking skills, the ability to multitask and the ability to work under pressure.

These are casual positions with flexible hours across the week.

Housekeeping Assistants

Part or full time: 20 to 40 hours per week
£9.90 per hour (£10,346 - £20,691p.a)

The College is seeking Housekeeping Assistants to work in all areas of the College. The posts have flexible start times between 7.30 am and 9.30 am. Weekly hours could be 20, 25 or 30 or 40.

We are looking for exceptional individuals to join our friendly Housekeeping Team to keep our College sparkling and spotless. Candidates must have previous cleaning experience, be enthusiastic, hard-working and have a keen eye for detail. A friendly disposition and courteous manner are also essential for this role, along with the ability to work weekends during busy periods on a rota basis.

Previous experience in a College environment would be desirable, but is not essential.

We are recruiting for a number of positions, both full and part-time, attracting a salary of up to £20,691 per annum (£9.90 per hour) and excellent benefits including:
