Deputy Buttery Manager (Maternity Cover)

Full time (40 hours per week)
£32,938 per annum

The College seeks to appoint a Deputy Buttery Manager (maternity cover) to effectively manage the Buttery department. Ensuring the service at all events is smooth and efficient.

The Buttery provides a food and beverage service to the College, and is responsible for serving Fellows, students, staff and guests at conferences, banquets and weddings as well as daily lunch and dinners. The Buttery Team are “front of house” and have a hugely important role in presenting a professional and efficient service to all Members of the College community and their guests.

The post holder will provide excellent customer service and be reliable and proactive with excellent team working and communication skills. You will have an understanding of professional catering services, till work and be able to work in a supervisory role.

The position is full-time, 40 hours a week, and attracts a salary of £32,938 per annum.

Buttery Assistant

Full time (40 hours per week)
£25,101 per annum

The College seeks to appoint a Buttery Assistant to work within the Buttery team serving food and beverages and maintaining the good order of the main food service areas, including the student cafeteria (Ramsay Hall), Formal Hall, and such other events in parts of Magdalene College as may from time to time be required.

The Buttery provides a food and beverage service to the College, and is responsible for serving Fellows, students, staff and guests at conferences, banquets and weddings as well as daily lunch and dinners. The Buttery Team are “front of house” and have a hugely important role in presenting a professional and efficient service to all Members of the College community and their guests.

The post holder will provide excellent customer service and be reliable and proactive with excellent teamwork and communication skills. You will have an understanding of professional catering services, till work and be able to work in a supervisory role.

The position is full-time, 40 hours a week, and attracts a salary of £25,101 per annum.

Casual Waiting Staff

£11.44 per hour (depending on age)

The College seeks to appoint a Casual Waiter to provide catering services; assist in cleaning, serving and maintaining the good order of the main food service area in the Buttery and such other parts of Magdalene College as may from time to time be required. The person will be responsible to the Buttery Manager and the Deputy Buttery Manager.

The Buttery provides a food and beverage service to the College, and is responsible for serving Fellows, students, staff and guests at conferences, banquets and weddings as well as daily lunch and dinners. The Buttery Team are “front of house” and have a hugely important role in presenting a professional and efficient service to all Members of the College community and their guests.

The post holder will provide excellent customer service and be reliable and proactive with excellent team working and communication skills. You will have an understanding of professional catering services and have high standards of personal hygiene and presentation.

The position is casual and paid hourly at a rate of up to £11.44 depending on age.

Casual Buttery Supervisor

£13.22 per hour

The College seeks to appoint a Casual Buttery Supervisor to provide catering services; assist in cleaning, serving and maintaining the good order of the main food service area in the Buttery and such other parts of Magdalene College as may from time to time be required.

The Buttery provides a food and beverage service to the College, and is responsible for serving Fellows, students, staff and guests at conferences, banquets and weddings as well as daily lunch and dinners. The Buttery Team are “front of house” and have a hugely important role in presenting a professional and efficient service to all Members of the College community and their guests.

The post holder will provide excellent customer service and be reliable and proactive with excellent team working and communication skills. You will have an understanding of professional catering services, be competent with numeracy and cash handling and have high standards of personal hygiene and presentation.

The position is casual and paid hourly at a rate of £13.22.

Relief College Porter

£13.37 per hour

Magdalene College is seeking to appoint Relief College Porters to work in the Porters’ Lodge, supporting the Head Porter in delivering efficient reception services and support to students, staff, Fellows, and visitors. This is a dynamic role that plays a key part in all aspects of College life.

The Porters’ Lodge, located on Magdalene Street, operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It serves as the main reception for the College, so it is essential that Porters are polite, helpful, and welcoming to everyone, whether external visitors, students, staff, or Fellows. As a central hub of College life, the Porters’ Lodge plays a vital role in supporting students throughout their studies and contributing to the wider College community.

Applicants must have previous customer service experience, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate courteously and professionally. The ability to remain calm under pressure, solve problems, and a good level of IT literacy are also required.

This casual position involves covering absences of College Porters, with shifts offered both day and night. The role offers a salary of £13.37 per hour, along with benefits such as meals while on duty, training, and uniform provision.
