Mr Robert Chartener

Mr Robert Chartener is a Fellow Commoner of Magdalene College and Chairman of the Magdalene Foundation.

Robert serves Magdalene College as a volunteer, supporting the College in North America. Although he is principally engaged in fundraising and alumni relations as Chairman of The Magdalene College Foundation, he regularly assists the College in other ways such as academic travel to the US.

Robert is chairman of Human Touch LLC, a leading provider of innovative wellness products, and he has worked as chairman, CEO, CFO, or director of several other companies in business services and consumer products. During his career he has held a variety of operating, financial, and investment positions in the US and Europe.

Robert enjoys serving on several non-profit boards and frequently advises other boards on governance and leadership. He is vice president of the board of trustees of The Hotchkiss School, secretary of the board of trustees of Cardigan Mountain School, a director and secretary of The Whitehead Foundation, chairman of The Egmont US Foundation, and a member of the Finance Committee of the National Cathedral in Washington. He founded Magdalene in America over 15 years ago to strengthen relations between Magdalene College and its members in North America.

He earned an A.B. degree from Princeton, an M.Phil. degree from Cambridge, and an M.B.A. degree from Harvard, where he was a Baker Scholar. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

  • Governance issues affecting for-profit and not-for-profit boards, particularly leadership, best practices, recruitment, succession, diversity, and allocations of responsibility.
  • Investment policies and practices at not-for-profits.
