See Magdalene's Senex Globes at the Victoria and Albert Museum

The Old Library has provided its pair of historic Senex Globes to an upcoming display at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Between Two Worlds: Vanley Burke and Francis Williams, is a thought-provoking exhibition, organized to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the docking of the Empire Windrush in June 2023. It brings together portraits of two distinguished scholars from different eras, created 280 years apart.

Magdalene's Senex Globes will be displayed alongside a portrait of Francis Williams (c.1690-1762), an eighteenth-century Jamaican scholar, shedding light on his remarkable life and the objects that were significant to him as markers of his learning. The display also features the photography and archive of Vanley Burke (b.1951), offering a contemporary perspective on identity and representation.
