Preparing for Interview

-
-
The Cambridge interview is by far the most famous part of the application process, but it’s nothing to be frightened of.

Magdalene College is delighted to invite students to our two upcoming events on preparing for interview.

75% of applicants to Cambridge are invited to interview, so it’s best to prepare. In this session, we’ll be discussing what the interviews look like, why we use them, and how best to prepare. Attendees will be invited to develop their critical thinking skills and practice working through a set of example questions, to inform their preparation moving forward.

The event will be chaired by the Schools Liaison Officer, Tess Leyland.

We will be running two sessions in November, both scheduled for 5 – 6pm.

  • Arts & Social Sciences – 11 November.
  • Sciences – 17 November.

This session is aimed at UK students who have applied to study at the University of Cambridge, but may be useful for younger students, those supporting an application, or those applying to the University of Oxford.

Students from our ‘Link Areas’ will have priority for this event. Magdalene’s Link Areas are:

  • Ceredigion
  • North Wales
  • Merseyside
  • Isle of Man

Registration

To attend this event, you must attend either a UK (or Isle of Man) state school, or an independent school on a scholarship or bursary. This event is aimed at students who have already applied to university, but may be useful for younger students, teachers or parents/guardians too.

This event is free, but requires registration. Please register your interest at least 48 hours before the event is due to start.

Registration

Places will be offered following the deadline to apply, so please save the date, check your junk mail, and look out for emails from access@magd.cam.ac.uk. Thank you for your interest.

The Application Support Series 2021

Magdalene College is delighted to be running a series of free online events in 2021 for Year 12/13 (S5/S6, Year 13/14 NI) students in state schools across the UK and Isle of Man. These sessions are designed to support students in making a competitive application to university, with sessions ranging from picking a course to interview support.

The support and advice will be relevant to students applying to academically competitive universities across the UK, including, but not limited to, the University of Cambridge.

Tess Leyland, Schools Liaison Officer, will be delivering the sessions alongside members of the Admissions Team and current students. These sessions aim to:

  • Introduce students to applying to university and the quirks of the University of Cambridge.
  • Give in-depth guidance on the Cambridge admissions process, and provide students with the knowledge and tools to support their applications to competitive courses across the UK.
  • Develop students study skills ahead of their final year, and to prepare them for learning at university.
