The Dias Law Lecture and Lunch 2024
Mickey Dias was a much loved Law Fellow (the first that the College elected) from 1955 until his death in 2009, serving as Director of Studies in Law and, from 1988 to 1991, President of the College.
We are delighted to announce that Magdalene has instituted a biennial lecture in his memory, with the inaugural event taking place on Saturday 15 June 2024.
We are honoured that the Inaugural Dias Law Lecture will be given by Mickey’s daughter, Dame Julia Dias DBE (the Hon Mrs Justice Dias). Many years ago Mickey wrote an influential article entitled “Götterdämmerung: Gods of the Law in Decline”. In her lecture, Mrs Justice Dias will revisit some of the themes in that article and consider the extent to which they raise issues which are still relevant today.
